Davido’s ‘Champion Sound’ is most-streamed Amapiano song on Spotify Nigeria

Spotify says ‘Champion Sound’ by Davido, the Nigerian singer, is the most-streamed Amapiano song in Nigeria over the past 10 years.

The streaming platform shared some music statistics in a statement on Friday to celebrate Amapiano’s first decade.

The company said the South African dance genre hit its first 100 million streams in 2020, followed by 300 million streams in 2021.

Spotify said the genre recorded over 1.4 billion streams last year. It said Amapiano listenership in Nigeria increased by 181 percent between 2023 and 2024.

Spotify said Davido’s ‘Champion Sound’ is the most-streamed Amapiano track in Nigeria.

The song featuring Focalistic, the South African rapper, was released in November 2021.

Spotify also announced the launch of ‘A Decade of Amapiano’, a website dedicated to “supporting the growth of homegrown music genres” in Africa.

“This critical influence has led to the launch of, A Decade of Amapiano, a site looking at the past decade of Amapiano and its different key influences,” the statement reads.

“Complemented by an on-platform Amapiano destination with pivotal playlists and podcast for anyone wishing to learn more about the genre’s origins, sounds and future.”
