A Nigerian man named Kingsley Ibeh has apologised for claiming gospel singer Nathaniel Bassey fathered the child of Mercy Chinwo, his colleague.

Ibeh was among the five persons — including Okoronkwo Ejike, DJ Spoiltkid, Terrence Ekot and Samuel Agozie — who had alleged that Bassey fathered Chinwo’s son.

Reacting to the allegations, Bassey petitioned the police, requesting their arrest and prosecution.

Blessed Uzochikwa, Chinwo’s husband, also filed a complaint to the magistrate court in Abuja, accusing the suspects of defamation.

The suspects are expected to appear before the court on April 23.

But in a video shared on his Facebook page, Ibeh described his comment as “reckless”, adding that he was “very sorry” for what he said.

The Facebook user also tendered “my sincere apology” to Bassey, Chinwo, and the little child.

“To Pastor Nathaniel Bassey, I extend my sincere apology to you for the comment I made on social media and to your family as well. I know the damages it has caused and I take full responsibility for everything,” he said.

“I am deeply sorry from the bottom of my heart. I am sorry to the followers, to his fans, to his ministry, the hallelujah challenge and the RCCG Oasis.

“I am also a fan of Pastor Nathaniel Bassey for the past years and I did not make those comments with the intent to cause harm or evil and I am deeply deeply sorry.

“To Minister Chinwo, I know I do not deserve your mercy but I am deeply and I ask you to forgive me. I am also sorry to your husband, pastor Blessed and to your cute baby.

“To the baby, I know my message was harsh and might have a negative impact to the family. To the innocent child, I know you do not deserve such controversy which may have future implications and I am truly sorry.”

Ibeh’s apology comes a few days after Agozi also expressed regret for his actions.

He pleaded with the gospel singers to “temper justice with mercy”.
