The Lagos state government has congratulated Pelumi Nubi, the travel content creator who drove from London to Lagos, on her recent feat.
After spending over two months on the road, Nubi arrived in Lagos on April 7, making her way to the University of Lagos (UNILAG).
In a statement, Julius Aregbe, special adviser on tourism, arts and culture in Lagos, applauded Pelumi for “demonstrating a can-do spirit”.
He also described the travel content creator as a “role model for other young Lagosians”.
“I am super happy. This is the Lagos spirit that we are talking about. I am happy Pelumi did it. She has demonstrated a can-do spirit,” he said.
“She is a role model for other young Lagosians. We can do a lot to make sure that we put our name on the map. Lagos tourism is rising. This is what we are talking about in terms of entertainment and hospitality.
“Lagos will continue to lead in other developments. I am happy that I have a Governor (Sanwo-Olu) who believes so much in youth and tourism, and that is why he is doing a lot.”
In November 2023, Nubi announced her intention to embark on a solo trip from London to Lagos.
She commenced the trip on January 30.
Nubi made the trip in a Peugeot 107. The vehicle was customised with features that allowed for sleeping and dining spaces.
Nubi travelled across 17 countries. Her itinerary took her from England to France, Spain, Morocco, and through the West Sahara Desert, all by road.
She drove through Mauritania, Senegal, Gambia, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Mali, Burkina Faso, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Togo, and Benin before arriving in Lagos.
Nubi had initially announced that she would arrive in Lagos on March 23.
However, she said the date had been changed due to border issues she was experiencing in some countries.
She later disclosed that she was denied entry at the Sierra Leonian and Liberian borders.
On March 26, Nubi revealed that she was involved in a car accident.
She, however, said she would continue her trip when she regains strength.
