Bella Shmurda, the Nigerian singer, has opened up about his reasons for quitting weed.
In a recent chat with the ‘In My Opinion’ podcast, Shmurda said he stopped smoking weed four years ago because it made him anxious and he started getting “scared of the future”.
The ‘Cash App’ hitmaker said weed also affected his focus, especially when making music.
The singer added that he has switched to consuming only cigarettes and alcohol, instead of weed.
“I do not smoke igbo [weed]. I used to but I started having anxieties smoking weed. I started getting scared of the future,” he said.
“So, four years ago, I stopped smoking weed. I just take cigarettes and liquor.
“Everything I was doing when I was smoking weed, I was having anxieties. At a point, it was affecting me in the studio.
“I would just be lost in the middle. It was not working anymore. I just have to stop. That was earlier in my career. It was not helping.”
Bella Shmurda, born Akinyibi Ahmed, began his career in 2019 after releasing ‘Vision 2020’, his hit single.
In 2020, he released ‘Cash App’, which featured Zlatan Ibile and Lincoln.
The song shot him into the limelight and earned him the ‘Next Rated’ category nomination at the 14th edition of The Headies.
Shmurda’s debut album ‘Hypertension’ was released in October 2022.
He has also received several recognitions for his craft.
