It is World Kindness Day! The occasion is celebrated annually on November 13 to highlight and encourage individuals to practice kindness in their daily lives.
In this often harsh world, showing kindness to oneself and others is crucial for creating a fair and better society.
However, as we celebrate World Kindness Day, this is a reminder that acts of kindness do not require an expensive price tag. There are several non-monetary ways to show kindness, after all, it is the intention behind these actions that truly matters.
Here are simple, non-monetary ways to show kindness to others.
- Provide encouragement
If you know someone who needs encouragement or support, encourage the person today.
Encourage them to pursue their goals and dreams. To make it even more intentional, you can encourage them through a handwritten letter. Let them know you see the good things they are doing and it will encourage them to do more.
A few words of encouragement can boost someone’s confidence and motivation.
- Reach out
Make a random phone call to someone and everyone that matters most to you.
Yes, you talk every time through social media, but when last have you heard the person’s voice or spoken to the person over the phone?
However, remember that a heart-to-heart phone conversation can not be compared to text. Through phone calls, you tend to be able to read the person’s voice and read the person’s feelings better.
- Offer compliments
Complimenting someone’s achievements, appearance, or positive qualities is a simple yet effective way to spread kindness.
Pay stranger honest compliments in random places you find yourself and watch how you put a smile on their faces, it will not hurt you.
- Listen
Lending an empathetic ear can be incredibly meaningful and helpful.
Take the time to listen attentively when someone needs to talk to you, don’t judge, and give useful advice when needed.
The only thing some people need to feel better is to share their feelings with someone who will listen without interruption. So you can be that one person that makes others feel better today.
- Volunteer
If you have a little extra time in your schedule, you should try to volunteer.
Dedicate some of your free time to a cause you are passionate about, it could be a charity or a community project.
You can also offer your help in the form of skills, where you make use of your skill to put a smile on people’s faces. For instance, if you can paint, you could help paint an orphanage home.
- Donate unused items
Your unused items can turn out to be someone’s most needed items, so donate them out.
Also, many people can not afford to buy items at full price, so donating your items to them will make a difference in their lives. It will also help clear some of the clutter and free up some room in your house.
- Offer to babysit
If you know any parent, especially those with young children, the best thing you can do for them is to offer to babysit.
Offering to babysit is a wonderful and meaningful way to show kindness. Parents often face various demands and responsibilities. However, offering to babysit gives them a break, allowing them to relax, run errands, enjoy some personal time, and focus on self-care.
- Donate blood
Donating blood is an extraordinary act of kindness that directly contributes to saving lives.
There is a high need for people to receive blood, blood banks and hospitals are constantly searching for blood donations. So, as long as you are healthy and meet all of the other regulations, you can give blood to show kindness.
Each donation has the potential to help multiple patients in need of blood transfusions.
Remember, the little things matter. So, perform an act of kindness and help someone smile today.
