Rema, the Afrobeats star, and Selena Gomez, the US singer, are set to headline the 2023 MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs) in Paris.
The organisers, in a statement, also unveiled the list of the other award nominees that will perform at the event.
‘Calm Down’, a song by Rema, was nominated in the ‘Best Collaboration’ category while the singer is a nominee in the ‘Best Afrobeats’ category.
The Afrobeats category was added to the nomination list for the first time in the EMAs’ history.
Other nominees listed for performances include Anne-Marie, David Guetta, Coi Leray, Jung Kook, Manuel Turizo, Ozuna, Reneé Rapp, Sabrina Carpenter, Thirty Seconds To Mars, and The Kid LAROI.
Fans are allowed to vote for the ‘Best Song’, ‘Best Artiste’, ‘Best Collaboration’, and ‘Best Afrobeats’ categories here until 10:59 pm on October 31.
The ‘Biggest Fans’ and ‘Best Group’ categories winners will be voted for at a later time via MTV EMAs’ social media pages.
The upcoming annual European awards show will air live from Paris on November 5.
In September, Rema’s ‘Calm Down’ won the ‘Best Afrobeats’ category at the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs).
Since its release, the song’s remix — which featured Gomez — has continued to rake in massive numbers on streaming services, break records, and earn awards.
