Two contestants have been eliminated from the Top 11 stage of this year’s Nigerian Idol, the local version of the Idol series franchise, a reality television singing competition.

The contestants — Faith Mac and Dotun Deloye — were eliminated after scoring the least votes in the first round of public voting.

During the live show on Sunday, IK Osakioduwa, the host, revealed the names of the contestants who made it through to the Top Nine stage of the competition.

This week’s performances had the surviving contestants perform covers of songs composed by their music idols, while the judges – Seyi Shay, DJ Sose, and Obi Asika – watched in the capacity of audience members as the power to save and eliminate contestants had since left their hands.

At this stage of Nigerian Idol season 6, power is solely in the hands of the viewers as they get to determine who stays and who leaves.

The nine contestants who scaled through to the next phase are Kingdom Kroseide, Akunna Okey, Faith Onyeje, and Francis Atela.

Others are Daniel Ikechi, Beyonce Ajomiwe, Clinton Francis, Comfort Alalade, and Emmanuel Elijah.

Kroseide performed ‘Uyo Meyo’ by Teni The Entertainer, Nigerian singer, with commendation that described him as comfortable from Dj Sose, while Seyi Shay said the performance is emotive.

Dressed in all red, Okey gave a stunning performance of Beyonce’s ‘XO’ while Onyeje did a cover of ‘All Time Low’, a song by Jon Bellion, the same song that he had performed at the auditions.

Atela brilliantly pulled off Sam Smith’s ‘Writing On The Wall’, a task not too huge for his vocal proficiency, while Ikechi gave the stage a turn-around with the electric performance of ‘Empty Space’ by James Arthur.

On her part, Ajomiwe brought her love for BTS, a K-pop band, when she performed ‘Dynamite’.

Francis, with the help of the live band, “went out of control” with John Legend’s ‘Tonight’ to receive the surplus applause of the audience while Alalade brought a long rope of hope to perform ‘Ire’ by Adekunle Gold.

Elijah rounded off with a soulful cover of Labrinth’s ‘Beneath Your Beautiful’, which was lauded by Obi Asika for the palpable emotion.
