Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos, has unveiled activities lined up for this year’s edition of Greater Lagos Fiesta billed to begin on December 1.

At a briefing on Friday, Sanwo-Olu, who was represented by Obafemi Hamzat, his deputy, said the initiative is part of his administration’s plan to boost entertainment and tourism in the state.

Greater Lagos Fiesta, previously known as ‘the Lagos Countdown’ and ‘One Lagos Fiesta, is an annual New Year’s Eve event. It is usually held at the Eko Atlantic Bar Beach in Lagos.

In a statement, the organisers said the event will commence with an opening ceremony on December 1, followed by cycling and photography competitions on the 5th and 7th respectively.

The fashion competition is scheduled for December 10, while Lagos/Xmas souk village will hold on the 18th.

This would be followed by Marina experience on the 26th while the Greater Lagos concert is billed to commence on 27th till 30th.

The event will come to a close officially on December 31 with the countdown to the new year (2022) expected to follow immediately after.

“This year, and for the first time, Greater Lagos Fiesta will kick-off from December 1st to January 1st, with a variety of activities to meaningfully engage and interact with all regions, residents, and visitors of the state,” it read.

“Festivities for the countdown typically include fireworks, live music concerts, and other cultural activities across the five (5) key Ibile zones in the states — namely Ikorodu, Badagry, Ikeja, Lagos Island and Epe.”
