Mike Okri, the veteran Nigerian highlife musician, is set to release a self-titled extended play (EP).
Vwede Overah, the spokesman to the singer, confirmed the development to TheCable Lifestyle on Saturday.
The EP, produced by the Mike Okri Entertainment Company, is expected to be launched on March 27.
Sheyi Shey, R&B singer, will feature as the special guest at the Boomplay-backed launch which will take place at The Kulture Yard.
Okri’s EP is said to comprise “entertaining, original, fascinating, and meaningful songs for entertainment and education”.
Likened to a profoundly beautiful piece of art on canvas and blended in the uniqueness of Afro-highlife and western style, the singer’s music contains deep lyrics that are said to “uplift and heal” the spirit.
Okri dominated the music scene in the 80s and 90s with hits like ‘Rhumba Dance’, ‘Time Na Money’, ‘Okpeke’, ‘Wisdom’, and ‘Burnin’.
He had left Nigeria over two decades ago but made a return in 2020.
Over the course of his career, Okri has bagged several awards, including The Nigerian Music Awards (NMA), Fame Music Awards (FMA), and the Pan African Music Awards (PAMA) in Ghana.
He has four music albums — ‘Concert Fever’, ‘Rhumba Dance’, ‘CRACKS’ and ‘Rhythmysticals’ — to his credit.
