MultiChoice, a South African company that operates the Big Brother Naija show, has returned with Nigerian Idol, the local version of the Idol series franchise, a reality television singing competition.

The brand, which owns DSTV, a Sub-Saharan African direct broadcast satellite service, broke the news on Sunday.

In 2015, Kunle ‘K-Peace’ Ogunrombi had emerged the winner of the fifth edition of the reality music show.

In a statement issued about its comeback via the African Magic website, MultiChoice said that auditions for its sixth edition will run from November 29 to December 13. 2020.

It added that the auditions will be done online.

“Have you ever imagined yourself on stage with adoring fans screaming your name? Then here’s your shot at the spotlight. Nigerian Idol is back for the 6th season and we’re looking to unearth the best in raw talent,” it said.

“All we need is for you to complete the online entry form, and upload a video of your singing audition.

“Mass auditions are online this season, and no money is needed to enter. We look forward to seeing your entry!

“Your audition should not be longer than 30 seconds, so chose the part of your song that best shows off your voice. No instruments or backtracks are allowed.

“Should your audition be successful you will be invited to audition in person in front of the Nigerian Idol judges.”

The return of the Nigerian Idol comes as its franchise has produced some of the biggest Nigerian singers such as Timi Dakolo, Mercy Chinwo, and Omawumi, all of whom made names for themselves in the global music scene.
