Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, a Nigerian novelist, has announced that she would be hosting a weekly reading of ‘Half of a yellow sun’, her 2006 award-winning novel on the Nigerian civil war.
The 43-year-old literary icon took to her Instagram page on Monday to share the news with her fans.
She said it will be a virtual reading and will hold every Friday from November 27 till December 31. According to her, this week’s reading will begin with chapters 1-6.
“Join me for a weekly reading of Half of A Yellow Sun starting this week with chapters 1-6. The reading will be uploaded on Fridays at 8PM WAT. Leave your questions in the comments below and tag two friends to read along with you! Best question of the week wins giveaway,” she wrote.
The novel, which paints a vivid picture of the effects of the war on the individual lives of the characters, won the Women’s Prize for Fiction (Orange Prize) in 2007.
TheCable had earlier reported how Chimamanda was awarded the Women’s Prize for Fiction ‘Winner of Winners’ title for ‘Half of a Yellow Sun’ — making her the first and only person to have won the prize in the 25-year history of the award.
The novelist was chosen in a public vote from a list of all 25 winners including Zadie Smith, the late Andrea Levy, Lionel Shriver, Rose Tremain, and Maggie O’Farrell.
In March, Chimamanda had made headlines after she had denied the plagiarism claims of Anne Giwa-Amu, a Welsh author and lawyer, with respect to ‘Half of A Yellow Sun’.
She has earned huge recognition for her works, which have been translated into several languages, receiving the United Nations Foundation’s Global Leadership Award in 2019.
