The Nigerian Twittergsphere has been set abuzz after a man narrated how he left his wife who was in labour to hang out with friends to eat isiewu, a traditional Igbo delicacy prepared with goat head.
The Twitter user — who goes by the name Seun — had, in a celebratory post on his daughter’s first birthday, narrated events surrounding her birth.
In the post, Seun said it was while he was enjoying the local spicy delicacy with friends that his wife, who was in the hospital, called that she had successfully given birth.
“On this day 1 year ago, I was chilling with my brothers @shevyhez and @MaziIbe @jenrade3 when my wife called to say ‘I am through’. It wasn’t even up to 1 hour I left her at the hospital, in fact I was about to devour the isiewu in front of me,” he wrote.
“I replied saying ‘through ke, how?’ She reiterated “I’m through, come and carry your daughter,”…. ah omo I was so excited, I broke the news to my guys, the isiewu sef no gree go again, had to do take-away.
“I sped to the hospital, burst a tyre while I was trying to park. Lo and behold my star was out! It’s one year today and my star is 1. Happy birthday Oluwamayomide Zuriel Ojo.”
The tweet has since generated mixed reactions on the microblogging platform where some users tackled Seun for leaving his wife at such a crucial time to go hangout with friends.
“How will you even be relaxed to the extent of wanting to eat isiewu when your pregnant wife is in labour? Do some of you actually love the people you married OR you just married them for the sake of it,” a Twitter user asked.
“Imagine your husband coming on the interwebs to tell the whole world that he abandoned you at the hospital WHILE YOU WERE IN LABOUR to go eat Isiewu with his friends, what sort of affliction and disgrace is this?,” another user asked.
Here is what some Nigerians had to say:
When you have a very stubborn child, then you realize you were eating Isiewu when he was born pic.twitter.com/Pj7pn1j1ny

On behalf of Nigerian Association of Responsible Men, we hereby disassociate ourselves from that Isiewu clown. The body does not recognize him.
AdvertisementIt's safe to consider him a goat and not human hence the reason he left humans in the hospital to be with goat meat. 😭😭😭😭

“The isi ewu no gree go again”
Even Isi-Ewu knew where to draw the line on the shocking irresponsility, but the guy couldn’t see through his insensitivity so he asked them to pack it in a take-away.
Tearsssssssssssssssssssssss

He didn’t travel, didn’t go to work, didn’t go and get cash or food for the wife. He went to eat isiewu with the boys while the wife was in a life & death situation.
Told her , “call me when you’re through” like sey na shit she go shit.

I’m not surprised by the husband eating isiewu when his wife was in labour sha. I mean it’s men what do you expect?
The responsibility of been there and taking care of your family/partner is only forced on women. Men rarely care & the society never hold them accountable.

So none of his friends told him it was not right that he was eating with them? None of them told him to return to his wife's side at the hospital? Like none of them thought it was odd he was eating Isiewu with them WHILE HIS WIFE WAS IN LABOUR? Men always enable other men.

Baba still even tried to eat more isiewu after he got the news.
Isiewu is temporary, child birth is eternal >>>

Leaving his wife to go eat isiewu might not just be the way it seem. Y’all know MOST Nigerian hospitals don’t allow men go into the Labour room. The idea of the isiewu might just be to calm his nerves. He might even be a better husband n father than those castigating him. Shior

Small headache that madam will have when we were dating, I’ll be thrown into panic mode, then she’s in Labour and I’ll now go and eat isiewu after waiting for 9 months.
A man who doesn’t love his woman is a weak man. Because love is the greatest expression of strength.
