Savage, who recently signed a management deal with Jay Z’s Roc Nation, said she has no intention of leaving Mavin, a record label owned by Don Jazzy.

In an interview with NotJustOk TV in the US, the singer said Mavin is family to her.

“Just for the record, Mavin is family and Don Jazzy was there with me throughout the negotiation of the deal,” she said.

“So, no I’m not leaving Mavin at all. It’s a management deal and Mavin is still my record label. I’m signed to Roc Nation under a management deal.”

She also disclosed that she’s had a publishing deal with Sony Music for several years.

“I still have a publishing deal with Sony, They basically handle my songwriting. I’ve been with them for many years,” Savage added.

The mother of one said she took along her son and mother on her tour of the United States.

“I have my mom on the road with me, so she’s helping out with my son. I contemplated leaving him at home but his first birthday fell within that time and I didn’t want to miss it,” she said.

Savage also spoke on the confusion in the western world over Afrobeats, Afrobeat, and Afropop genres.

She noted that many Nigerian artistes are still in the process of figuring out their genres but attested to the fact that they were all inspired by Fela’s Afrobeat.

“I think and I stand to be corrected. I think we are still trying to figure out what our genre is but the closest thing for me is Afropop.

“Obviously, Afrobeat is Fela. We do come from that. We are offsprings of the king himself.

“A lot of us have a lot more influence with hip-hop, R&B, pop and other genres, it makes more sense to call our sound Afro-pop,” she said.
