Olamide Adedeji, indigenous rapper, says he’s living his dreams in spite of the music industry vultures who tried to kill his shine.
In a note posted on his Instagram page on Monday, the YBNL rapper talked about his early days in the industry and reminisced of when he was accused of stealing the style of Dagrin – who is regarded as the progenitor of indigenous rap.
“Dear fans, thanks for all the support over the years, you guys are so amazing. Everything the industry denied me of when I started, young, hungry, strong, and passionate about music are coming my way now – glory be to God”, Olamide said.
“The vultures in the industry tried to kill my shine saying I stole Grin style – we all love Grin but that was a tough one to overcome.
“I am at peace with myself, I’m happy, living my dreams, bringing my brothers up, repping my hood, my heritage, my culture. Everything I believe in is everything I’m standing and living for.
“I am here to contribute the little I can to make everyone around me strong and independent, here to motivate he streets and less privilege that anything is possible if you put your heart into it and put God first.”
The ‘Bobo’ singer further said he would not allow himself be measured by the number of awards he wins while boasting that he could have a million plaques made for him if he desperately craves awards.
“If they give me award or not, it does not define me. God bless whoever wins any aard. God bless the organisers for the initiative. Thanks for creating an avenue to commend us for our works but it is nothing compared to what I am and who I am.
“I am human made by God. I am worth more than an award. Award is man made. I am not magic. If I need 1 million awards on my shelf, I’ll get someone to make them for me.
“This does not mean I don’t appreciate all the awards I’ve been given or the people that voted. I do but please let’s not devalue ourselves as humans and stop letting material things determine how we see others or love and respect them.”
