The Oscars may the most prestigious movie awards, but it also honours artistes.

The nominations for the 2018 Academy Awards were announced Tuesday and a number of artistes were recognised for their works.

Queen of hip hop soul Mary J Blige, Common, and Raphael Saadiq were among those nominated for best original song.

Blige’s nomination makes her the first person to be nominated for an acting performance and an original song in a single year.

Saadiq, Blige and Taura Stinson were nominated for collaborating on ‘Mighty River’ from ‘Mudbound’ while Common was nominated alongside Diane Warren for ‘Stand Up For Something’ from the movie ‘Marshall’.

‘Remember Me’ from the movie ‘Coco’ earned Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez yet another Oscar nomination.

Sufjan Stevens was nominated for ‘Mystery Of Love’ from the movie ‘Call Me By Your Name’

‘This Is Me’, an original song on ‘The Greatest Showman’, saw Justin Paul and Benj Pasek secure Oscar nominations.

Fantasy romance flick, ‘The Shape of Water’, landed 13 nominations, the highest at this year’s awards.

World War II drama, ‘Dunkirk’, had eight nominations while ‘Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri’ received seven.

Meryl Streep earned her 17th nod for best actress and her 21st overall for her role in ‘The Post’, an American political thriller directed by Steven Spielberg.

The 2018 Academy Awards will take place March 4 and comedian Jimmy Kimmel is expected to host the event.
