Tunde Onakoya, the Nigerian chess master, has sparked social media buzz after expressing his admiration for veteran actress Genevieve Nnaji.

The drama started on X when Nnaji, 46, shared a photo she took at colleague Rita Dominic’s 50th birthday celebration on Sunday.

Onakoya, 30, who couldn’t resist commenting, quoted the film star’s post and simply wrote, “Hi”.

He then humorously upped the stakes in a follow-up tweet, declaring that he would only step aside for another suitor if they could defeat him in a chess match.

“Hmmm. I see that the competition is quite tough. I’ll only concede if any other suitor can beat me in a chess match,” the post reads.

The chess champion’s advances toward Nnaji led to humorous exchanges that quickly went viral on the microblogging platform.

Responding to the tweets, Onakoya downplayed his earlier flirtation, quipping: “Let’s calm down guys. I was only wondering if she wanted to buy my chess board”.

However, his comments did not stop users from airing their differing views.

While some users applauded Onakoya’s confidence, others teased him about “shooting his shot” with one of Nollywood’s most revered stars and advised him to go for his “league”.

Another user wrote: “Chess don pay, e remain chest”.

“Tunde is now moving from chess to chest But the lady he’s dy!ng for has a lot of guys wey dey text Tunde saw this and he come dey vex Now, Tunde said he’s ready to compete with the best And conquer the rest so he can see the breast,” a user added.

Nnaji, known for her private nature, has yet to respond to Onakoya’s remarks.
