Murphy Afolabi, the Nollywood actor, has passed away nine days after marking his birthday.
Professional colleagues of the Yoruba film star, including Odunlade Adekola, confirmed his death via social media.
Also among colleagues who confirmed his passing is Tunde Ola-Yusuf, a video director.
TheCable contacted the Theatre Arts And Motion Pictures Practitioners Association Of Nigeria (TAMPAN) for details.
Damola Olatunji, chairman of the directors guild at TAMPAN, said Afolabi died after slumping on Sunday morning.
He added that the deceased had briefly suffered typhoid and malaria before he slumped.
As of the call, Olatunji said members of TAMPAN are still at the hospital where the actor was confirmed dead.
“He slumped in the bathroom and died. Everyone is still at the hospital waiting for the family,” the director said.
Murphy Afolabi started acting in childhood.
He was featured in the movie ‘Ifa Olokun’ under the tutelage of Fasasi Olabankewin, a film veteran better known as Dagunro.
Afolabi has received positive reviews for his delivery and interpretation of scripts in Yoruba movies.
It is believed that he has acted in over 60 movies including ‘Jimi Bendel’.
Murphy Afolabi’s passing is coming less than two weeks after May 5 when he marked his birthday.
It is also coming just as death rumours have been trailing Saint Obi, another Nollywood veteran.
