Burna Boy, the Grammy-winning Nigerian singer, has publicly addressed the recent controversy surrounding him, boasting about performing while being “cancelled” during a stop on his ‘No Sign of Weakness’ tour.

Speaking to a packed Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Canada, on Thursday night, the Afro-fusion star reflected on what he called an “emotional” tour and praised his band The Outsiders as “the greatest band in the world”.

He then posed a rhetorical question to the crowd: “Because tell me who else has done a tour while being cancelled?”

“This tour has been emotional, the Outsiders are the greatest band the world,” he said.

The remark followed weeks of public scrutiny after a viral incident at his concert in Colorado, where he asked a couple seated in the front row to leave after they were seen sleeping during his performance.

The lovers exited the venue to mixed reactions from the audience, triggering widespread criticism online.

The backlash intensified after an Instagram live session in which Burna Boy suggested he only wanted supporters who bought tickets to his shows.

He later defended his actions, comparing the situation to removing a disruptive passenger from a flight or sending a student out of a classroom.

He expressed strong disapproval of being treated like mere entertainment, stating he would “gladly be cancelled if we are now in a world where you can treat me like a stripper, slap my a** and tell me to keep dancing cuz you throw $100 at me”.

The singer also pushed back against claims that he disrespects his fans, insisting he had been misquoted and that some of his comments were made in jest.

He said he objected to being treated without respect as an artiste and clarified that he did not harbour disdain for his supporters.
