The Ladoke Akintola University (LAUTECH) chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has dismissed rumours that lecturers at the institution are on strike.

In a statement on Monday by Babatunde Lawal, its chairman, and Toyin Abegunrin, its secretary, the union called on the public to disregard the claims.

It described the rumoured strike “as total falsehood”, adding that members of the union are carrying out teaching, research, and community service as expected of them.

The varsity’s ASUU said though there were issues with respect to members’ welfare, the union has taken it up with the management of the institution.

It also said the union has met with the management for urgent resolution of unpaid Earned Academic Allowances (EAA) and promotion arrears among others.

The national body of the union has been in the news since it embarked on an eight-month strike over the non-implementation of their demands by the federal government last year.

Members of the union have been at loggerheads with the government since the strike ended over non-payment of their salaries for the period the industrial action lasted.

The federal government, however, vowed to maintain its no work, no pay policy. The government had said the lecturers will only be paid for work done.
