Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), has taken to social media to celebrate Charly Boy, the singer and activist, on the occasion of his 73rd birthday.

In a tweet on Monday, Obi said Charly Boy fearlessly fought against societal ills that hinder Nigeria’s peace and progress.

He said Nigeria needs more men like Charly Boy who hold leaders accountable.

The presidential candidate prayed for good health, happiness, and many more years of life for the singer

“My dear elder brother, Charles “Charly Boy” Chukwuemeka Oputa – I rejoice with and celebrate you today as you mark your 73rd birthday anniversary,” he wrote.

“You have consistently remained an advocate of good governance in Nigeria. You fearlessly raise your voice against injustice, corruption and other societal ills that contend with the peace and progress of our nation.

“We need more men like you in Nigeria who can speak truth to power and hold the leaders accountable. May God protect and bless you with abundant health and happiness, and grant you many more years ahead.”

Charly Boy was among the celebrities who supported Obi in the 2023 general elections.

In September 2022, the music star endorsed Obi as his preferred candidate and pledged to organise “the biggest rally” for him.

Charly Boy has been a singer-songwriter, television presenter, publisher, and producer.

He is best known for his alternative lifestyle, political views, and media productions, notably The Charly Boy Show.

He has served as president of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN).
