The pair snagged the gong on Monday at NOVO event space in Los Angeles after the song attained over 400,000 sales in the US

In a now-viral video, the ‘Ojuelegba’ crooner is seen thanking Tems and others who contributed to the success of the song.

“I want to really appreciate you (Tems) I love you baby girl, you’re a superstar. This is your moment, the world needs to hear this, you’re special to me. This is personal to me,” he said.

“We have a platinum record, I just want to thank everyone, from Tems to the producers and others. Thank you for all the support.”

The musicians had also jointly performed the song at the Lost In Riddim Festival in Sacramento, California on Saturday

Since its release, ‘Essence’, a track off ‘Made in Lagos’, Wizkid’s 2020 album, has continued to pull the strings in the global music landscape.

In July, the project became the first Nigerian song to crack the Billboard Hot 100 as well as the third from Africa.

After four weeks, ‘Essence’ would record another leap, climbing by 23 spots on the Hot 100 to hit 59th place.

Wizkid also released a remix to the global hit, featuring Justin Bieber, the Canadian pop star.

The ‘Fever’ singer had earlier revealed that he enlisted Tems for the project because he loves connecting with new artistes.

“I love meeting new artistes. When I’m in a room with a new artiste, it feels like, Oh, my God. It feels like I’m right there when the magic is just about to take off and take form. It’s so exciting to me,” he had said.
