Divine Ikubor, the Afrobeats superstar fondly called Rema, delivered an electric performance at the 2023 Ballon d’Or on Monday night.

The prestigious Ballon d’Or ceremony was held in Paris, the French capital.

The award ceremony honoured the remarkable achievements of footballers during the 2022-23 season; both at club and national levels.

Lionel Messi was crowned the winner for an unprecedented eighth time, with Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe as the runners-up.

During the event, Rema took to the stage to deliver a mesmerising rendition of his chart-topping track, ‘Calm Down’.

The celebrities in attendance were also seen vibing to the hit song.

The Afrobeats star, at some points, stepped off the stage to shake hands with football icons like Mbappe, Jude Bellingham, Vinicius Jnr., and Haaland, among others who sat in the front row.

The feat makes Rema the first Afrobeats artiste to perform at the prestigious Ballon d’Or awards.

The achievement highlights the incredible success the Nigerian has achieved in 2023 and also symbolises the growing influence of Afrobeats on a global scale.

In 2022, Davido delivered an exhilarating performance at the World Cup in Qatar. Burna Boy also thrilled the audience at the 2022-23 Champions League final.

Since its release, the remix of ‘Calm Down’ — which featured Selena Gomez, the US singer — has continued to rake in massive numbers on streaming services, break records, and earn awards.
