A video has surfaced online showing inmates jubilating as Shatta Wale, the Ghanaian dancehall singer, arrived at the prison for his one-week sentence.
Last Monday, the internet was awash with reports that the musician was shot at East Legon in Ghana.
The country’s police thereafter announced that it had launched an investigation into the alleged gunshot attack.
In a lengthy Facebook post, the music star had confirmed the claim. He had further said he was endangered.
Shatta Wale, whose real name is Charles Nii Armah Mensah, also called out the country’s police for not arresting a prophet who had allegedly declared he would be shot on October 18.
The singer was later arrested on Tuesday and charged with the publication of fake news at the Accra circuit court.
While the presiding judge adjourned the case until the next hearing set for October 26, the singer was denied bail and remanded in prison where he will be spending a total of one week.
