In a post via his Instagram story on Tuesday, 2Baba shared a video of Burna Boy’s live performance at his ongoing ‘I Told Them’ tour.

The ‘African Queen’ hitmaker lauded him for working hard to get to the upper echelon of the music industry.

“This young man has worked, proven, and stamped himself as one of the greatest music icons,” he wrote.

“Hate him or love him, it won’t change that fact. Kudos to everyone that is part of making this fact happen. Oluwa Burnafide.”

2Baba first rose to fame as the frontman of Plantashun Boiz in 1999.

‘African Queen,’ his 2004 song, has been touted as one of the biggest hits to come out of Africa.

The Afrobeats legend had previously said he is unbothered if the younger generation of artistes does not recognise his legacy.

Burna Boy, on the other hand, started to attract attention in 2013 after releasing ‘Like to Party,’ the lead single from his debut album ‘L.I.F.E.’

In 2020, he claimed he brought the Afrobeats genre to the mainstream where it is currently enjoying western recognition.

“FACT! I always knew I was and I am THE BEST. Everyone you think is the best KNOWS I’m BEST since Fela Kuti,” he had said.

In 2021, the Afrofusion singer set a record in Nigeria after his fifth album ‘Twice As Tall’ won the ‘Best World Music Album’ category at the Grammy Awards.

Last month, a city in the United States declared March 2 as Burna Boy’s Day in recognition of his artistic contributions and advocacy efforts.
