Following the attack on two students by policemen, the management of Osun State University (UNIOSUN) has announced a week-long mid-semester break.

Shittu Gafar, the acting registrar of the university, on Monday said the management consulted with the students’ leadership before the decision was reached.

“We thank God for taking full control of the ugly incident of police brutality against our students. The students are responding speedily. We also note the decisive action taken by the security agencies and the assurances to forestall future occurrence.

“To further calm frayed nerves, management and the leadership of our students have agreed that the university should proceed on a one week mid-semester break with effect from Monday, 23, to Friday, January 27, 2017.

“All our students are implored to stay busy with their studies in their respective hostels,” the statement said.

Policemen allegedly shot at two students of the institution while playing football in the Oke Baale area of Osogbo, on Saturday morning.

The policemen were said to have stormed the football pitch, shouting ‘Yahoo boys, Yahoo boys’ and subsequently opened fire on the students.
