The University of Ibadan (UI) community has mourned the demise of two of its students who lost their lives in separate incidents.
Earlier on Sunday, a final year student of the institution named Ridwan Adebayo was killed by some armed robbers about a few kilometers from the main gate of the institution.
The deceased, who was a student in the department of history, was shot close to the UI/Bodija road after his mobile phone was taken away.
He passed away en route to the hospital where he was to receive treatment.
Similarly, Ayomide Adeyemo, a 200-level student of the department of microbiology, passed away after being knocked down by a vehicle while crossing the road close to UI’s main gate.
Speaking to TheCable Lifestyle on Tuesday, Tunji Oladejo, UI’s spokesperson, said there is an ongoing investigation on the robbery incident.
“The matter has been reported to the Bodija Police Division. The Oyo State Police Command is conducting a discreet investigation on the sad development,” Oladejo added.
“The body of the late student is with the University College Hospital (UCH), for autopsy.”
On the car accident case, Oladejo said the driver was identified as a student of the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN).
“Miss Oluwaseun Ayomide Adeyemo, died due to injury she sustained from a road accident when she was hit by a fast-moving vehicle driven by a fellow who lost control,” he added.
“The accident occurred in front of Mobil Petrol Station on Ojo/UI Road.
“The corpse of the late Miss Adeyemo has been deposited at the Department of Anatomy of the University. The matter is being investigated by the Sango police division of the Oyo state police command.”
A student of the varsity who spoke to TheCable Lifestyle said the development has left many within the school premises in panic.
Colleagues of the deceased and members of the university community, who have since been sending in their condolences, also called for prayers against what they described as “a bad omen”.
