Akon, US singer and businessman of Senegalese descent, has gotten a lot of people talking on Twitter after he concluded agreement to build ‘Akon City’, a futuristic city in Senegal.
The ‘Locked Up’ crooner had told his fans across the world that he had finalized agreement for the new city and would welcome whoever that wants to visit when the project is completed.
“Just finalized the agreement for AKON CITY in Senegal. Looking forward to hosting you there in the future,” he wrote on social media.
The announcement has since stirred up lots of conversation on social media platforms especially Twitter, where users have been registering their different takes on the development.
While a segment of users lauded him, others took a swipe at other celebrities for not embarking on similar projects in their respective countries.
Some Nigerians also aimed a dig at MI, Nigerian rapper, who recently tackled Akon for calling Wizkid his “Lil bro”.
“How much money does Akon have. He’s building a city not a private estate, a whole city,” a Twitter user said.
“On behalf of M.I, we Nigerians want to apologise to Uncle Akon for his misyarn some days ago. He was short of things to say,” another user said.

Akon is building his own city in Senegal. The city will run like an independent state, with its own airport, schools and hospitals plus more, and trade will be in Akon's own cryptocurrency(AKoin).
Lending Akon's words, "I'm still trying to find a motive…🎵"

Proof that the world needs young minds with digital mindset. Not some kind of 72 or 80 years old leaders still stuck in the analog world.
I wish Nigeria 🇳🇬 is as lucky as Senegal 🇸🇳. Akon you are the best https://t.co/G4g3f3ODX8
