Donald Trump, US president-elect, has poked fun at Arnold Schwarzenegger, former California governor and movie star, for having a below-par first outing as host of ‘Celebrity Apprentice’.

The first episode of the show formerly hosted by Trump did not get the reception expected by viewers and critics.

Washington Post’s review of the show reads: “What plagues this version of “Celebrity Apprentice” is the utterly rote fashion with which it is being conducted, missing out on a prime opportunity to reinvent the show, change some of the rules and conventions.”

The two-hour premiere had a total of 4.9 million viewers and a 1.3 rating among adults 18-49, which represents a significant drop in ratings compared to the reality show’s previous opening episode in 2015.

As opposed to Trump’s ‘You’re fired’, Schwarzenegger unveiled his new catchphrase: ‘You’re terminated. Now get to the chopper’.

But that, and a few new additions weren’t enough to earn the show rave reviews.

“Mr. Schwarzenegger’s cautiousness and rigidity make him a poor fit. (Though perhaps they came in handy in the governor’s office.) The “Apprentice” franchise has never been great television, but Mr. Trump gave it a reason for being. After Monday’s numbingly boring opener, someone needs to take “The New Celebrity Apprentice” into the boardroom, quick,” said the New York Time’s review.

Following his victory at the November 2016 American presidential election, many expected Trump to ditch his pettiness and act in a presidential manner, but his recent tweets suggest otherwise.

Trump, who’s a producer on the show, wrote: “Wow, the ratings are in and Arnold Schwarzenegger got “swamped” (or destroyed) by comparison to the ratings machine, DJT.

“So much for being a movie star-and that was season 1 compared to season 14. Now compare him to my season 1. But who cares, he supported Kasich & Hillary.”

Schwarzenegger, meanwhile, has responded to Trump’s mockery, stating that he hopes the president-elect would “work for all Americans” as “aggressively” as he worked for his ratings.

He also urged Trump to read a quote from the inaugural speech of Abraham Lincoln, America’s 16th president.

Many believe that Trump himself is responsible for the low ratings as many viewers had vowed to stop watching the show, owing to the president-elect’s role as ‘producer’.

Donald Trump was the host of Celebrity Apprentice for fourteen years.
