Tonto Dikeh, the Nigerian actress, has revealed why she does not attend burial ceremonies.
In an Instagram post on Thursday night, the film star said she has never attended any burial before due to a decision she made while growing up.
The entrepreneur and brand influencer also said her “mother’s burial” might be the first she would attend in her lifetime.
“I have never attended a burial before. I will never attend one too. I said this when I was a child and I stick by it,” she wrote.
“My mum’s burial will/might be my first ever. To all my friends who think I am shutting them out, my reason is I don’t attend burials.
“If I let you attend my mum’s I will owe you the same favour and I can’t repay that. If you love me, pray for my family. If you intend to support me, only pray for me.”
It was not immediately clear what informed her post.
The cryptic post comes amid claims that the actress lost her stepmother who had been a mother figure to her.
In the post, Dikeh also asked people not to send her money or consolation messages, adding that she does not support the idea.
“Don’t send a dime or a consolation message. I don’t do so well with that! But know I appreciate you all a lot and I’m grateful,” she said.
Reflecting on her feelings, the mother of one said: “My pain is bigger than you think. Your presence may mean a lot but I’ll love to grieve privately.”
Dikeh was in the news last year over her controversial split from Prince Kpokpogri, her ex-lover.
