Toke Makinwa, media personality and author, has urged women to pursue their dreams without being inhibited by societal constructs.
The 34-year-old event host made this statement on her Instastory. She noted that the “right man” will respects and value feats achieved by ambitious women.
“Buy that house, buy your dream car, go on that vacation. Don’t let anyone tell you it’ll scare them away. The right man will respect all you’ve worked hard to achieve on your own and be inspired that in this man’s world, (so they think), you did it,” Makinwa wrote.
“The ones that run away had nothing to offer in the first place. Stop apologising for being woman enough to choose you over toxic situations. you’re not selfish, it is your right to dream big and achieve even more.”
Makinwa’s comment conflicts with a school of thought which submits that men are likely to get intimidated by successful women.
While urging women to defy all odds on their path to success, the on-air-personality also stressed the need for pro-activeness.
“Dear woman, stop asking for permission to be great, no one will give it to you. Take it, go out there and be awesome. Stop waiting for the perfect situation, sometimes all you’ve got is now. Jump, you may fall or you just might fly. Either way, you’ll never know if you don’t take a chance,” she wrote.
Toke Makinwa recently made her acting debut this year in ‘Makate Must Sell’, a comedy film, directed by Don Omope, a Nigerian film producer.
