Andrew Ogunsakin, the chairman of Okitipupa LGA in Ondo, has announced that three suspects have been arrested over the assault on Abass ‘Obesere‘ Akande, the fuji singer.

The incident occurred on Friday when thugs attacked the 60-year-old singer and his band members during a burial ceremony in Okitipupa, fleeing with a bag containing his money.

Providing an update via his Facebook page, Ogunsakin revealed that some of the items taken during the attack had been recovered.

“I am pleased to inform the general public that three suspects connected to the disturbance have been arrested and are currently in detention, while efforts are ongoing to track down other individuals involved,” he wrote.

Ogunsakin also disclosed that he has taken proactive steps to engage with the artiste directly.

“I have contacted Obesere’s management for a scheduled meeting with him and his team. This engagement will help set the record straight and enable me to personally express deep concern over the incident,” he said.

The chairman condemned the attack, describing it as “unacceptable” and not reflective of the community’s values. He reaffirmed his administration’s stance against such lawlessness.

“Let me reiterate that this administration will not condone lawlessness or hooliganism in any form. We remain committed to safeguarding our image and upholding the cherished values of Ikale land,” Ogunsakin stated.

He concluded by commending the security agencies for their swift response and professionalism in handling the matter.

In a statement released by his media manager Ayonla Althentic, Obesere narrated how the thugs assaulted him on Friday during the burial ceremony.

Althentic explained that the attackers descended on the 60-year-old musician and members of his band shortly after they concluded their performance and were preparing to leave the venue.

The statement also called on security agencies to arrest and prosecute those responsible.
