Kunle Afolayan, the filmmaker, has announced a sequel to ‘Anikulapo’, the award-winning movie.
In a recent Instagram post, the 48-year-old movie director said the sequel, titled ‘Rise of the Spectre’, will be televised as a four-part series.
He also said the series will employ the acting dexterity of the original cast and new faces like Lateef Adedimeji.
“Kap Motion Pictures in partnership with Golden Effects Pictures officially announces the sequel to the award winning Netflix original movie Anikulapo,” he wrote.
“Anikulapo – Rise of the Spectre is a 4 part NETFLIX original series.
“Written by Sola Dada who wrote the movie, and won an award at the just concluded AMVCA for Best writer in a drama, ANIKULAPO – Rise of the Specter is nothing like what you would expect.
“The series is coming after the multiple award winning success of the ANIKULAPO Movie which ranked number 1 globally on Netflix with 8,730,000 views in less than 2 weeks.
“Anikulapo – Rise of the Spectre takes viewers on a journey through time, exploring the concept of reincarnation and the idea that our souls are connected across lifetimes.
“Rise of the Specter is Kunle Afolayan’s debut feature series with over 600+ cast and crew members, it promises to be both visually stunning and emotionally powerful enough to keep you on the edge of your seat.
“Rise of the Spectre welcomes back some of the old cast and introduces some new ones.”

In September 2022, Afolayan released ‘Anikulapo’ as a one-part movie, starring Kunle Remi and Bimbo Ademoye as lead cast.
Set in the 17th century Oyo Kingdom, ‘Anikulapo’ centers on the story of Saro, a young cloth weaver, who is brought back to life by a mystical bird after he was beaten to death for having an affair with Arolake, the Alaafin’s youngest wife.
Saro is seeking greener pastures in the great Oyo Kingdom.
‘Anikulapo’ also examines issues surrounding the rebirth of identity in Africa by exploring different perspectives on the concept.
Prominent names in the original movie include Adebayo Salami, Taiwo Hassan, Hakeem Kae-Kazim, Sola Shobowale, and Yinka Quadri.
Others are Toyin Afolayan, Kareem Adepoju, Eyiyemi Afolayan, Faithia Williams, and Aisha Lawal.
‘Anikulapo’ bagged four awards at the 2023 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA) ceremony including the ‘Best Overall Movie, Africa’.
