In September 2022, Afolayan released ‘Anikulapo’ as a one-part movie, starring Kunle Remi and Bimbo Ademoye as lead cast.

Set in the 17th century Oyo Kingdom, ‘Anikulapo’ centers on the story of Saro, a young cloth weaver, who is brought back to life by a mystical bird after he was beaten to death for having an affair with Arolake, the Alaafin’s youngest wife.

Saro is seeking greener pastures in the great Oyo Kingdom.

‘Anikulapo’ also examines issues surrounding the rebirth of identity in Africa by exploring different perspectives on the concept.

Prominent names in the original movie include Adebayo Salami, Taiwo Hassan, Hakeem Kae-Kazim, Sola Shobowale, and Yinka Quadri.

Others are Toyin Afolayan, Kareem Adepoju, Eyiyemi Afolayan, Faithia Williams, and Aisha Lawal.

‘Anikulapo’ bagged four awards at the 2023 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA) ceremony including the ‘Best Overall Movie, Africa’.
