Nollywood actor Taye Arimoro has rejected his indefinite suspension by the industry’s leading guilds, calling their statement “inaccurate” and vowing to fight the ruling legally.

The joint body of the Directors Guild of Nigeria (DGN), Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), and the Association of Movie Producers (AMP) had suspended Arimoro on Friday following an alleged physical assault on a movie set involving producer Peggy Ovire.

The conflict originated from an altercation on November 11. Arimoro claimed the confrontation began when he tried to leave the set after his scheduled call time had elapsed.

He alleged that Ovire blocked his vehicle, insisting he remain to film additional scenes, which led to him being detained and assaulted by her and her team.

Arimoro also demanded N100 million in compensation from Ovire.

In her response, Ovire dismissed Arimoro’s account as “grossly misleading, selective, and materially false”.

In a letter dated November 27, the guilds also ordered him to apologise to the public and Ovire on the same live platform he used previously and to release a corrective video stating the proper sequence of events.

He was asked to return to complete two scenes for the film ‘Pieces of Love’ under supervised conditions.

They also mandated that Ovire write a letter of apology for “failing to de-escalate the matter” and to the estate management where the incident occurred.

The film regulatory bodies maintained their zero-tolerance policy for violence, intimidation, harassment, or misconduct on any film set.

However, reacting via an Instagram post, Arimoro stated, “To be honest, the statement given doesn’t capture the facts of the matter in any way, shape, or form!”

“My management and legal team are aware of this, and I will provide a comprehensive response tomorrow. My legal team is also proceeding with the necessary action to address these unfounded claims,” he added
