Stan Alieke, the legal representative of Speed Darlington, has called out the Nigerian police for the continuous detention of the rapper.
Darlington was arrested last week while performing at a show in Owerri, Imo state.
Deji Adeyanju, a human rights lawyer, had alleged that Burna Boy, the Afrofusion star, was responsible for the rapper’s re-arrest.
Adeyanju claimed that Burna Boy was using the police to oppress Darlington while presenting himself as a human rights advocate.
In a recent post on his Instastory, Alieke revealed that seven days after Darlington’s arrest, the police have denied him access to bail.
The lawyer also called on the law enforcement agency police not to “trample on my client’s his constitutional rights”.
“Today makes it exactly one week since my client, Mr Darlington Achakpo PKA Speed Darlington was re-arrested and detained by the @nigeriapoliceforce and he’s been in their custody ever since,” he wrote.
“The police should not trample on his constitutional right while trying to enforce another person’s right. He’s entitled to bail and should be granted same.”
In October, the content creator was first detained by the police in Abuja after Burna Boy filed a formal complaint.
He was, however, released on bail after five days in police detention.
Darlington had taunted Burna Boy over his affiliation with the embattled US rapper Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ who is facing multiple charges for sexual exploitation and human trafficking.
He also asked Burna Boy to explain how he won the Grammy award for his album ‘Twice As Tall’ — a project executive produced by Diddy. He claimed there was a sexual relationship between the duo.
