Snoop Dogg, the American rapper, will be among the torchbearers carrying the Olympic flame in the final stretch before the opening ceremony of the Paris Games on Friday.

The Paris 2024 Olympics will be held in France. The official opening ceremony is set for July 26 while the event run till August 11.

Snoop Dogg, 52, took to his Instagram page to confirm his selection as a torch bearer.

The US pop culture icon will carry the Olympic flame through the suburb of Saint-Denis, north of Paris, which is home to the Stade de France Olympic Stadium and the Olympic Village.

Dogg will be working with NBCUniversal to cover the Olympics. He will provide “regular reports” and “his unique take on what’s happening in Paris.”

Speaking on his selection as a correspondent, Snoop described the Olympics as “a celebration of skill, dedication, and the pursuit of greatness”.

“We are going to have some amazing competitions and, of course, I will be bringing that Snoop style to the mix. It is going to be the most epic Olympics ever, so stay tuned,” he said.

Meanwhile, Tobi Amusan was named the flagbearer of Team Nigeria for the opening ceremony.

Team Nigeria will be represented by 86 athletes participating in 12 sports.
