Kashim Shettima, the vice-presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has stirred reactions online over his outfit to this year’s Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) conference.

On Monday, the former governor of Borno represented Bola Tinubu, the APC presidential candidate, at the annual conference holding at the Eko Atlantic City from August 22 to 26.

He turned up for the conference in a suit, tie and a pair of sneakers.

But his outfit has continued to elicit a wave of mixed reactions on social media, especially on Twitter.

Several users faulted his fashion sense, arguing that he should not have worn sneakers to an official outing such as the NBA conference.

Joining the conversation, Reno Omokri, ex-aide to Goodluck Jonathan, the former president, wondered how he hopes to tackle the country’s challenges if elected VP when he cannot dress properly.

“This is Tinubu’s running mate at the NBA Conference today. Look at his feet. Who in his right mind wears a suit and tie, and then puts on a pair of gym shoes to a conference?” he wrote.

“If Shettima does not know how to dress himself, how can he address Nigeria’s challenges?”

“Forget about the carpenter-made coat he’s wearing and the weird shoe combo. But his boss was talking about anger management abi? Shettima is always angry,” another user wrote.

A few other users, however, defended him.

“It’s pathetic that the self acclaimed trendy Nigerians mocking Shettima for wearing a suit with sneakers don’t themselves even know what is trendy in today’s fashion world,” a user wrote.

“Well, respected Sir Shettima, abeg teach the authoritative ignorant haters what constitutes modern fashion.”
