Although she started off her career as a gospel singer, Simi achieved commercial success after deviating from that genre of music.

“I started off as a gospel singer,” she told Africa Magic on Sunday after performing at the Big Brother Naija eviction show.

“I’m not closed to the idea of doing another gospel album, it’s not something that I’ve thought about right now but if it happens it happens. I’m open to it.”

Simi also shared her thoughts on what she believes makes her unique as an artiste in the Nigerian music industry.

“I would say the texture of my voice is my trademark, my style of writing, and my personality,” she said.

When it comes to fashion, Simi’s top priority is comfort. Without any definitive fashion role models, she points to Rihanna as someone she admires.

The singer said: “I don’t know if I have any style icons per say but I like Rihanna because she can pull basically anything off.

“I think my style is just comfortable. As long as I’m comfortable. I like casual, I’m a bit of a tomboy as well.”

In the past year, Simi who also doubles as a sound engineer released successful hit singles like ‘Joromi’, ‘One Kain’, and ‘Smile For Me’.

The 29-year-old singer says she has no intention of slowing down in 2018.

“What you can expect from me in 2018 is more music,” she said.

“I’m working on more videos, new projects as well, my concerts… there’s a lot of stuff coming through so fingers crossed because you know it’s gonna be a blast.”
