Seun Kuti, the Afrobeat star, has traveled out of the country for his European concert tour, amid his ongoing trial for alleged assault.
The 40-year-old was arrested on May 15 after he was filmed assaulting a police officer on the Third Mainland Bridge.
He was detained the following day at the state criminal investigation Department (SCID) and arraigned before the Yaba magistrate’s court on May 16.
At the start of his trial, the police had sought to get an order to further keep him in custody for 21 days pending the conclusion of its investigation.
But, Adeola Olatunbosun, the chief magistrate, directed the police to detain the musician for additional 48 hours and then release him on bail.
Olatunbosun later extended Seun’s remand for additional four days to enable the police to continue with its investigation.
On Tuesday evening, Seun was released to his family after meeting his bail conditions.
He then appeared at the magistrate’s court on Wednesday to receive the director of public prosecution (DPP)’s advice.
The court later dismissed an application filed by the police to arraign Seun.
Olatunbosun held that she needed the DPP’s advice before proceeding with the case.
She then adjourned the case until July 3 for mention.
But on Thursday morning, the musician was spotted in a viral video at the Murtala Muhammed international airport, Lagos, being assessed by officials before departing Nigeria.
Seun took to his Instagram story to announce his summer tour which had been on hold because of his trial.
The singer shared a picture of himself in an airplane. He also revealed that the tour will begin in Zurich, a city in Switzerland.
“Euro tour kicks off tonight in Zurich,” he wrote.
Seun shared details about his tour in April.
The summer tour was fixed between May 20 to August 16 and will see him globetrotting from the UK, Italy, Spain, and Slovenia among other European countries.
