The Lagos state examinations board has warned the public to disregard a report asking candidates sitting for the 2023 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) to pay N5,000 for practicals.
The BECE is conducted for candidates in their final year of Junior Secondary School. It is used for the transition from JSS 3 of the basic education class to the senior secondary school.
It is coordinated by the ministry of education in each state under the supervision of the National Examinations Council (NECO).
There were rumours that students partaking in the exam for this year were expected to pay N5,000 for practicals.
But in a statement on Monday, Orunsolu Adebayo, director of the Lagos state examinations board, described the claim as “false”.
Adebayo asked the public to disregard the rumours, adding that an “impostor” is behind it.
“The Lagos State Examinations Board wishes to alert members of the public about an impostor purportedly acting on behalf of the board by requesting for N5,000 for the year 2023 BECE practicals,” the statement reads.
“The board hereby states categorically that her registration for year 2023 BECE is online, and no individual is authorised to collect money on its behalf, and she does not charge for practicals separately.”
Adebayo enjoined members of the public not to transact any business with any individual acting on its behalf.
