Sam Larry, the music promoter, has claimed that N2 million led to his altercation with Mohbad.
Mohbad, born Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, 27, passed away on September 12. He was laid to rest the following day.
Shortly after his death, an old video surfaced on social media showing the late singer being chased away from a music video shoot with Zlatan, the rapper.
In the footage, Sam Larry and some men visited the scene of the shoot and demanded that Mohbad be sent out.
The late singer thereafter filed a petition against Larry, alleging a threat to his life and damage to property.
In the petition, dated June 27, 2023, Mohbad alleged that about fifteen persons “led by Sam Larry Elegushi invaded the premises with dangerous arms such as guns and cutlasses”.
But in a statement on Friday, Larry claimed Mohbad did not show up after paying the late singer the sum of N2 million to perform at his mother’s party.
Larry said he went to Mohbad’s music video shoot with Zlatan to “request a refund and we had an argument that lasted five minutes”.
He said he moved on after the incident and “knows nothing about how the musician died”.
“Two years ago, I gave Ileri N2 million to perform at my mother’s annual remembrance concert at Ikorodu. The boy never turned up,” he wrote.
“So I called him to ask why. He then said he was not feeling well. When I asked for a refund, he said he lost his phone and money when the NDLEA raided his place and since he left Marlian Records, he is now broke, with no commitment to repay.
“I then left but later heard that this boy was having a musical video shoot next street to my house. So I went there to ask for my money again. We had an argument that lasted five minutes. Even one of his friends insisted he was going pay the money.
“Till today they have not paid me. This was early last year. I have since moved on. I travelled to Kenya to find new African to perform at my mother’s concert this year. I have been away since August 20!
“I don’t know anything other than what was written in the blogs and press. I don’t even know where he lives I only know his former label boss and their house.
“I don’t know any nurse or doctor or hospital. I don’t know anything about his movement, I don’t have that time. I have lost a lot more money than that before; you win some you lose some.
“That is my story, case closed. I came here willingly and happily. I know nothing about how the musician died.”
The police detained Sam Larry on Thursday. The law enforcement agency added that he will assist with the ongoing investigation into Mohbad’s death.
