Ruger, the Afrobeats singer, says fans contributed to the difficult situations Mohbad faced before he passed on.
Mohbad, the ex-Marlian Records signee, died on September 12 and was buried the next day.
The circumstances surrounding his death have continued to stir up controversies on social media.
In a recent interview, Ruger said fans were just with him because “he was a Marlian”.
The singer argued that the moment the late singer left the music label “fans stopped listening to his songs”.
The singer also urged music lovers to let Mohbad rest in peace and stop “using his death for entertainment”.
“I do not know whether the label was Mohbad’s problem or not. I just want you all to know that not only the label was his problem, but the fans were his problem too,” he said.
“The fans added to it too because as soon as he left the label, I do not think people continued listening to him anymore. I feel like they were just attached to the fact that he was a Marlian.
“So did you guys love him for his music? So what did you love him for? The fans, the ones that are acting all aggressive, we are at fault too so let us just accept that.
“I wish the guy rest in peace. You guys should stop stressing the guy’s spirit. Dem don dey use ham catch cruise and it is really annoying.”
In October 2022, Mohbad alleged he was assaulted by Marley, the head honcho of Marlian Records.
He also asked his fans to hold Marley responsible if any harm came his way.
Since Mohbad’s demise, thousands of Nigerians have called for the ban of Marlian Records, while nationwide protests have been held to demand justice for the singer.
The Lagos police on Tuesday announced it now has Naira Marley in its custody for interrogation.
On Wednesday, a magistrate court sitting in Yaba held that Naira Marley be remanded for 21 days.
On September 21, the police exhumed Mohbad’s corpse for autopsy and are awaiting the results.
