Rich Homie Quan, the US rapper born Dequantes Devontay Lamar, has passed away.

The Atlanta-born rapper, who gained mainstream fame through the trap singles ‘Type of Way’ and ‘Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh),’ died on Thursday.

Quan passed on in Atlanta, Georgia, the Fulton county medical examiner said, although the cause of his death is not known. An autopsy is however scheduled for Friday.

“Dam lil brother, we just spoke about shooting a video,” 2 Chainz, another Atlanta-based rapper, wrote on Instagram.

“Special prayer for you and your family, and pray for any and everybody that’s dealing with something. My condolences bru.”

Quan was born on October 4, 1989. He started making trap music in the 2010s and teamed up with rappers like Gucci Mane, 2 Chainz, YG, Young Thug, and Trinidad James.

He began to enjoy mainstream success with his 2013 single ‘Type of Way’, which peaked at number 50 on the Billboard Hot 100. His 2015 single ‘Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh)’ saw further success at number 26 on the chart.

Quan became a household name in the US and was nominated for multiple BET and BET Hip Hop Awards.

He was seen as one of Atlanta’s best-known modern rappers who dished out his lyrics with intense emotion and fiery passion.

Tributes have continued to pour in for Quan from across the rap world.
