A three-part documentary series, ‘Surviving R. Kelly’, exploring the history of sexual assault allegations against the American R&B singer is set to be aired in January 2019.
In the official trailer for the docuseries, one of R. Kelly’s alleged victims interviewed for the documentary said: “There is a difference between R. Kelly and Robert. R. Kelly, he’s that fun, witty, likable guy. But Robert is the devil.”
“You can’t buy me”, says another woman interviewed for the docuseries, pointing to the singer’s history of evading justice through financial payoff and non-disclosure agreements (NDA).
The documentary is coming after #MuteRKelly went viral in May, as protesters called on the music industry and brands to stop promoting the singer. This resulted in Spotify removing his song from its catalogue.
It was revealed in 2017 that the singer, who was acquitted of 21 counts of child pornography charges in 2008, allegedly held several women in a sex cult by brainwashing them.
Over the last few decades, the singer has been accused of mental, sexual and physical misconducts several times.
The docuseries features about 50 interviews with the likes of John Legend, Wendy Williams, Kelly’s ex-wife, Andrea Kelly, brothers Carey and Bruce, Tarana Burke, the founder of the #MeToo movement, and some of his alleged victims.
