Habeeb Okikiola, the fast-rising Nigerian singer better known as Portable, has reacted to the Headies’ threat over his remark about his co-nomimees at this year’s edition of the award.
The fast-rising singer was nominated to vie in the ‘Rookie of the Year’ and ‘Best Street-Hop Artiste’ categories.
In the ‘Rookie of the Year’ category, he is expected to compete with Av, Fave, Magixx, and Ugoccie.
For the second category, he is pitted against Bella Shmurda, Mohbad, Naira Marley, and Goya Menor among others.
On Wednesday, Portable claimed his co-nominees at The Headies are no match for him.
He also threatened to kill anyone who wins any of the categories in his place.
In its reaction, organisers of the annual awards threatened to disqualify him if he fails to retract his statement and issue an apology on his social media pages.
Responding via his Instagram page on Friday night, Portable taunted the award organisers, saying they “nominated a mad man musician”.
He also apologised over his remark, adding that he is not at loggerheads with anyone.
“Headies, you invited a mad person and you’ve seen one…this year’s Headies will boom, you’ve nominated a mad man musician… street is taking over…we no fight, we just dey talk am, say we no want competition so make una give us our award,” he said.
“No vex o bros. If I f*uck up, no be me be the first to do that. Plenty people don dey f*uck up. Abeg I wan collect my award.”
