Habeeb Okikiola, the controversial singer better known as Portable, says he is a mad man who is receiving treatment at the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital in Aro, Abeokuta.
Portable was declared wanted by the police on February 18 in connection with an alleged assault on three officials from the Ogun State Planning and Development Permit Authority (OGPDPA).
But in a series of Instagram posts on Tuesday, the embattled singer appealed to Dapo Abiodun, the Ogun governor, for forgiveness.
He alleged that he was targeted for wearing a vest with the face of Adeola Solomon, a senator popularly known as Yayi.
He claimed that he is “mentally unstable,” adding that he is a patient undergoing treatment at the hospital in Abeokuta.
Portable also described his struggles as a “spiritual attack”, while asking “God to save me”.
“I fear government. I am a federal government liability. I am a mad man, and I have my medications that I usually take,” he said in Yoruba language.
“You can verify this from Aro Hospital. I have a card that confirms me as one of their patients.
“I am from Abeokuta and they are taking care of me there. I am not a thief, I help people around me without even asking about their background.”
The controversy began on February 5 when OGPDPA officials attempted to seal Portable’s bar due to a lack of approved permits and insufficient air space.
The altercation led to the arrest and arraignment of nine of Portable’s associates on a five-count charge, including armed violence, felony, obstruction, assault, and intent to kill.
They were granted bail of N5 million each with sureties licensed bond agents registered with the state government. The case was adjourned until March 17 for further hearing.
Portable surrendered to the police in Lagos on Wednesday after weeks of evading arrest.
Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos police spokesperson, said the singer will be transferred to Ogun for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Portable recently sought the assistance of Femi Falana, the human rights lawyer.
He had earlier pleaded with President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the matter.
