The Ogun state police command says it has summoned the owner of Pavilion Hotel and Suites located at Ayepe for allegedly planting secret cameras in rooms.
The spotlight had beamed on the firm after two people — believed to have lodged at the hotel — claimed they found about five cameras hidden in several parts of the rooms.
The development had generated outrage with Nigerians accusing the hotel’s management of breaching people’s privacy.
In his reaction, Abimbola Oyeyemi, the command’s spokesman, said an investigation has commenced into the matter.
According to him, the hotel’s owner, who is based in Lagos, had already been invited by the divisional police officer in Odogbolu for interrogation.
“The owner of the hotel stays in Lagos and the Divisional Police Officer in Odogbolu has invited him. We are expecting him to come and state his reasons for doing so,” he said.
Femi Branch, a Nollywood actor, had earlier also slammed the hotel’s management while calling on the police as well as the state government to thoroughly investigate the case.
“What is the motive? I am calling on the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to arrest the manager and all the operators of the pavilion hotel and suites in Ayepe to do a thorough investigation of all the guests that have lodged there to find out if any of them got robbed, kidnapped or murdered,” he had said.
“When you are in your room making phone calls, disclosing confidential information, if you have money, you may have it spread around you inside the room, they have gotten a lot of information from these hidden cameras in the rooms.”
