Some members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) have been kidnapped by gunmen in Rivers state.
It is understood that the corps members were returning from the Ondo state NYSC orientation camp on Tuesday at about 9 pm — and on their way to Port Harcourt.
The kidnappers were said to have hijacked the corps members’ vehicle along the Rumuji axis of the east-west road in Emohua LGA.
Grace Iringe-Koko, the state’s police spokesperson, said some corps members who escaped from the attack have been rescued.
Iringe-Koko also said police officers have been deployed to the area to ensure the safe release of the abducted corps members.
The police spokesperson, however, did not reveal the number of persons kidnapped or rescued.
The abduction of the youths came barely 24 hours after Chidi Lloyd, chairman of Emohua LGA, declared a certain Onuigwe Wodi wanted.
Wodi was said to have been involved in kidnapping, cultism, the killing of police officers, and armed robbery along the east-west road.
Lloyd placed a sum of N1 million as a reward for anyone who finds Wodi.
The chairman also withheld the salaries of operatives of the Emohua vigilante service (EMOVIS) following their inability to check the rising crime rate in the LGA.
