The federal capital territory (FCT) police command has arrested Peter Nwachukwu, husband of Osinachi, the late gospel musician.
Josephine Adeh, the command’s spokesperson, confirmed his arrest to TheCable Lifestyle on Monday.
“He (Peter Nwachukwu) is in our custody. He was arrested yesterday (Sunday),” she said.
His arrest comes amid allegations of domestic violence in the wake of her death.
According to Adeh, an investigation has commenced into the circumstances surrounding the demise of the singer.
Osinachi, who is known for her collaborative hit track ‘Ekwueme’, died at an Abuja hospital on Friday.
Edwin Alex, the gospel musician, had claimed that she died of throat cancer.
But some social media users alleged that her death was due to domestic violence.
Frank Edwards, another gospel singer, also claimed that Nwachukwu’s death was caused by an “unreasonable human”.
Obiageli Ezekwesili, the former minister of education, had earlier described the allegations of spousal abuse as “painful”.
“The death of Osinachi Nwachukwu of the epic ‘Ekwueme’ worship song really hit hard. To read allegations of spousal abuse worsens the pain. I hope the truth is unearthed and justice given,” she had said.
“Everyone, including churches must take issues of violence against women seriously.”
