It was a radiant display of sartorial brilliance, rich African heritage, and heart-rending elegance at the 2021 Design Africa Fashion (DFA) showcase held over the weekend.

The event, which added glitz to the ritzy Eko Convention Centre in Lagos, was eye-popping as top African fashion designers lit the runway with some of their resplendent offings that left the audience rubber-necking with awe.

Inspired by the year’s theme of “Creative Cultures,” Yomi Casual, Zikora, Jurio Lutti, Niposkin, Skentele by Etti, Studio Trybe, Meklit.me, Lulla Studio, Femi Toys, and others showcased different fashion wears for men and women.

DFA is a platform that fosters the coming together of fashion enthusiasts — both experienced and upcoming — to commercialize their art.

Towards achieving this goal, a reality show was set up with over 2000 video entries received from different parts of Africa with designers showing off their pieces.

The judges — Godson Ukaegbu, Adebayo Oke-Lawal, Akin Faminu, Oluwatosin Ogundadegbe, Michael Ugwu and Ituen Basi — whittled the entries down to 10, who were then camped at a location in Lagos for 30 days.

After the aforementioned days of gestation, Zikoranachukwuebuka Ikebuaku of Zikora emerged as the eventual winner.

The winner was then awarded $10,000 to create their designed garment and showcase it within the Design Fashion Africa weekend in October.
